  • 3 Tips To Help You Become Intuitively Secure

    Intuition01

    Decisions, Decisions

Have you ever made a decision that didn’t sit right with you? Perhaps you had initially made a different decision but then backed out at the last minute. Or perhaps you caved to peer pressure. I mean your friend did say if you did x,y,z then the desired result would happen right?

But that something is niggling at you.
    It feels off.
    It just doesn’t feel right.
And you question that feeling because the ‘experts’ said it were for the best.
    What do you do?

Oh, I know you, you went for what was ‘safe’ didn’t you but you regretted it afterwards right?

    THE SITUATION

Let me set the scene for you.

  • What’s so bad about self-sufficiency?

    girl in field

During the week I watched this clip about the ‘Sin of Self Sufficiency’ and I was drawn in by the title. I was like ‘what’s wrong with being self- sufficient?’ I like to be able to do stuff for myself. I’m independent. Nothing wrong with us women doing things for ourselves. I can have and do it all right? (Or as Oprah would say ‘You can have and do it all, just not at the same time.’) In fact, our society has become obsessed with self-promotion and working our way up to the top of the ladder. Is this a bad thing?

To hear what Sandra Crawford Williamson has to say about it all. Watch here

Let’s clear up a few things first.

:: I think it is great to be self-sufficient.

:: I think modern medicine is marvellous and I have no offence against doing what you have to do to be well. (Sandra mentioned she went the IVF route and for her it wasn’t right because she believed God called her to release this into his hands. I believe IVF is a great tool and that God uses it as well to bless people who wouldn’t be able to have babies. It’s an individual choice. I just want you to know I’m for modern medicine as much as I am pro alternative medicine. In fact, we saw a fertility specialist initially to get treatment. It’s just that it didn’t work for us so we sought alternative medicine purely because my mental health was taking a beating and by shifting to alternative medicine for me meant I was shifting the focus from getting pregnant to I’m healing my body).

:: I think that although I believe God intervenes in situations He often requires us to do some work too. He’s not some freakin’ magic genie.

    Good. Got it?

  • Are you waiting for a miracle?

    EmotiveImages_141029_Diana_WEB_013

Everyone wants a miracle don’t they? Whether it’s for yourself or someone else, we all crave an answer to prayer. After years of praying for a child we were blessed with our little miracle in Flynn Elliott. He’s 15 weeks old and he brings such delight to my husband and I. Having Flynn has deepened my faith in so many ways. I have so much love for Flynn and it made me realise how much more God must love his children. Sure, I knew this before. It’s something that we hear often. But having Flynn here and having that mumma connection has helped me to connect with God and has helped me to know how deep His love must be for us as his children.

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to listen to Marianne Williamson, who is an internationally acclaimed spiritual author and lecturer. Her work largely centres around “A Course in Miracles” which is ‘a unique, universal, self study spiritual thought system that teaches that the way to love and inner peace is through forgiveness.

    The Security Challenge

Oh my. Within days of starting this project I had some massive inner mean girl moments. Something unexpected had happened and it really made me doubt my ability as a leader.

I played this dialogue over in my head:

I must really suck as a leader.’

‘I must not be very popular.’

    ‘I’m not very spiritual anyways.’

”My opportunity to serve has been taken away. I must have done something wrong.’

You have this same dialogue too huh? You have these moments where you feel insecure, lost, and not needed.

So what do you do with those moments of doubt? What do you do when the inner mean girl makes her appearance? And is being secure a feeling, behaviour or belief?

+ Maya Angelou once said that “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”  What changes have you gone through over the years that have shaped you as a person and have developed what you do at Eager and Co?

When my husband and I started Eager&Co. I was 21, fresh out of university and just married. People thought we were crazy at the time starting a business with each other, especially in our first year of marriage. To be honest though, the marriage part was the easy part compared to running a business. We had started from scratch and we really both had no idea what we were doing. As a person, the biggest change I made was trusting my partner more, and more importantly, trusting in God.  (more…)

  • Do you want to be more present?

EmotiveImages_141029_Diana_WEB_028Hey there my spirited soul sisters!

It’s weird, every time I have writer’s block a lesson comes my way and bingo it’s also what you girls seem to be needing at the time.

Today started off really well. I had attended an Australian Breastfeeding Association discussion talk on ‘The Early Daze.’ Flynn slept the whole time and when we got home it’s like he flipped a switch. He went from cheery baby this morning to ‘I need you now. Don’t you dare put me down and while I am at it I am going to spit up all of my milk all over you too’ mode.

So with spat up milk trickling down my shirt I placed him on the couch, right in the middle, because he can’t roll anyways and I was going to be quick to grab his bib. The bib was just over there (imagine me pointing a few steps away).

While I was collecting the bib I looked over and there was Flynn doing a roll towards the timber floor and my mumma instinct kicked in and I slid on my knees over to him, catching him in the my arms right before he would have hit the floor. (And yes it hurt my knees, especially the one I had reconstructed last year. Really bad!)

Well he was crying, I was crying. I told him ‘sorry I was frustrated’ and then fed him some comfort milk. (C’mon who doesn’t like a good emotional feed every now and again).

    And there was the lesson.

  • I’ve got that loving feeling

freedom and balloonsHey Hey Lovely. The past two weeks I’ve been starting off the week by writing 3 new habits I wanted to incorporate into my week and then ways I could make sure these happened each day.  My three habits of recent were to journal, read a book (for fun), and connect with God.

How I hope to achieve this is by using one of Flynn’s naps to journal or read and during one feed listen to a podcast and connect with God through prayer, song or whatever I feel like at the time.

It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut. Each day becoming a personal ground hog day.

So how can we combat that icky feeling?

By incorporating good self care habits and through serving others.

I’m pretty good with looking after myself as such. My guilty pleasures are body products, massages and facials. What I’m not so good at is switching off.

When I went through my trials many moons ago now, I busied myself. I covered up my pain through work, food, music, drinking…you name it. I didn’t want to leave a minute to think about the pain or to process it.

But here’s the thing. We need to process that stuff.

We need to dig right to the core of our being and figure out what God wants to do through us in the pain.

It’s sucky right when we go through bad things. But being loving and getting a real grip of that loving feeling is important.

So how can we do that?

  • Transitions Interview Series – Sue Barlow

sueHey Hey Lovely. Today is the final interview as part of the “Transitions Series.” If you’re new around these parts over the past couple of weeks I’ve interviewed experts in their field to talk about how they tackled the various transitions in their lives. Today I have the lovely Sue Barlow of Sooby Events. Sue styled my baby shower and she did so with oh so much style. You see I’m a big ideas person. I’m creative. But sometimes putting stuff together from my head can be a little much. Plus I was pregnant at the time. I didn’t need to be up all night baking and styling a party. (more…)

  • The Power of Grace

    babylove

    A Mother’s Lense

My heart has changed a lot since I’ve become a  mother. I’ve started to see things a lot differently. Through a mother’s lense.

This week there were two instances where I used these new lenses. The first was while watching a programme about Ivan Milat, the infamous backpacker murderer here in Australia.  As I looked at Flynn, my 6 week old, I wondered how must his mother have felt to find out her son had committed such atrocities? He would have started out just like Flynn. A baby.

As I snuggled Flynn close and my heart swelled with such love for this child I contemplated what makes children grow up and become murderers. Did his mother cuddle him close? Did she whisper ‘I love you’s‘ in the wee hours of the morning? Did he feel loved? The whole is it nature versus nurture?

I then watched the news a couple of days later to find out the two Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were executed on drugs charges. How must their mothers feel? Again, they started out just like my Flynn.

I say a prayer over Flynn in that moment. For his future, that he will meet friends who will influence him positively, that one day he’ll be a good husband, that he’ll treat people with love and respect. That Jesus will be the light of His life and that this light will shine brightly in a world full of evils.
