AWAKENED TO LEARN

Well it was back to work full time this week. It was a nice ease in being a four day week thanks to the Queen’s Birthday Holiday on the Monday.

The Monday night before school started I had a case of insomnia.  This tends to happen when I’m a bit anxious about something. I felt a little lost coming so late into the school term after missing essentially 6 weeks of content. How was I going to catch up on all my work? How would I get all my marking done? How was I going to write my comments on time?  And all of this in between scheduled physio appointments for rehabilitation of my knee and studying for my Naturopathy/Nutrition/Life Coaching Course.

At about 4 AM I realised that I had applied all the sleep hygiene rules. You know the ones: get up out of bed and read, make sure there are no electronics in the bedroom, don’t look at the time (too late), and make sure your room is the right temperature.  I then realised I had been sent via email a free meditation from Claire Obeid of “The Wellness Project.” All 18 minutes of it which I played about 20 times before falling asleep.

And it got me thinking.

Should I give this meditation thing another go? I mean I don’t really need to do it.  I love this article by Elle Griffin “Must I meditate?”  when she says:

Well in short, no. In fact, meditation was designed for men! Women weren’t made to meditate under a tree all day, how masculine, and, well, boring. No. Women can take sudsy soaks in the tub and meet God. They can savor a slice (or two) of cake for dinner and meet God. They can laugh so hard they (almost) wet their pants and meet God or jump into the ocean with all their clothes on and meet God.

I agree with her so much. We don’t need to. There are so many ways to connect and to be still.  However, I thought it was worth giving it another shot as I thought it might at the least put me to sleep.

So I purchased the “Stillness Clarity Connection” meditation from Claire Obeid’s website. All 110 minutes of guided meditation.  That Tuesday I was prepared.  I set up my aroma bloom diffuser and put Audra James Sleep Drops in it. I didn’t even switch on my electronics when I got home.  I set the play list and I drifted off to sleep.  I had the most glorious sleep.  I’ve used it all week and have slept nice and sound.  The only problem is I hate having electronic devices in my room so am looking into buying a grounding mat.  I especially like this article by Lauren over at Empowered Sustenance about the effects of ‘Electropollution.’ Guess the whole meditation experience is also leading me to try this next new thing: a grounding mat.

NEW ADVENTURES ARE SCARY!

This whole new take on meditation for me has opened up my mind to what other new things might be in store for me over the year.  I wrote down my own personal intentions for the year. One of them being to have an online life coaching/health business that is thriving and surviving.  Another one is to go on my own to a retreat of some sort. Something like Gwinganna. To learn how to be still and again to learn more about myself. And I especially like this intention ‘to develop my spiritual side more. To be more grounded.’ There are some other personal ones in there and I’ll share them with you when they have become an actuality. I have one that is absolutely beautiful and stunning and hopefully I can share that with you when I know more. (Intrigued much?)

NEGATIVE SELF TALK – ASLEEP TO YOUR TRUE POTENTIAL

Whatever your new adventure is there is usually opposition to it. As you know I post every Monday.  I was on such a high after getting such fantastic feedback on “The Black Dog- Man’s Not So Best Friend.”  Then my next post “Taken for Granted” seemed to fly under the radar. It felt like no one read it and I threw myself my own pity party. Maybe it was boring? Maybe it just wasn’t relevant? Over done topic perhaps? Where were all my shares? Then I got one comment under it and it made the world of difference to my confidence and I realised my worth was not in how many ‘shares’ I received but in the knowledge that my blog post made a difference to that one person who read it and that’s what truly matters.

Along the journey to the awakening of our dream’s reality the negative self talk and opposition creeps in.  The struggle to get there is often a part of awakening to our true potential.  Without the struggle would we truly be able to empathise with the people that are around us each day?  Would we flourish and grow without these experiences?

Let’s awaken to our true potential.  What is it that makes our heart sing? What would we do if time and money weren’t anything to worry about?

We are in a collective sisterhood. Let’s make sure that we listen to the sisters around us and encourage and uplift in our conversations and deeds. We just never know who may need it or what may inspire someone to awaken to their true potential.

So that’s it for me this week. I just wanted to write from the heart. No bull dust. No extensive research data. Just little ol’ me learning and growing. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds for me. How about you?

What new things have you learnt or tried this year?
